CASE STUDIES - Afilm
Their Communication Need
Afilm is a video distribution company based out of Amsterdam, Netherlands. They had the rights to release the DVDs of Lord of the Rings in parts of Europe. They
wanted a promotion campaign to help maximise the sales of the 3rd instalment in the series in Belgium.
The Business Communication Solution
Discussions resulted in M&C proposing a crossmedia game using both SMS and online. This game would allow the user to go between the two media to fulfil a quest
in a Lord of the Rings environment. Those that finished had a chance to win prizes including VIP passes to the launch party. This game was heavily promoted
through national TV and Radio.
Results
With a project like this there are two main measures of success: if the game works technically; and if public likes it (and so sales increase). By both measures
this project was a success. There were no technical glitches and was popular. Even today, a sampling of those who played the game showed that not just high
brand retention but a true affection for the underlying product.
