CASE STUDIES - EC PECA Workshop
Their Communication Need
European Commission's Protocols to the Europe Agreements on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance of Industrial Products (EC PECA) had a workshop attended by industry standards experts from across the EC plus the candidate countries of central and eastern European countries.
Traditionally EC PECA workshops provided conference proceedings and background material as a bulky bundle of printed documents. They wanted to make it more likely and easier for attendees to take the documents home and actually use them - including directly copying and referencing the information in other documents. In addition to all this, some of the presentations took advantage of dynamic computer animation and could not properly be put onto paper.
Using the internet to distribute the information was considered and rejected. It would have taken too long to download on even the quickest networks. In addition, as the material was for presentations, it should be formatted and presented exactly in the way the designer anticipated.
EC PECA elected to put the majority of this information on CD-ROM and contacted Morris & Chapman to action this task.
The Business Communication Solution
The CD-ROM created by Morris & Chapman had a user-friendly interface and used built in programs that would allow all computers to quickly and easily access all information in the way it was intended.
Although a CD-ROM was used for the majority of the information, print not avoided per se. The CD-ROM was provided in a folder with a summary of key conference information.
Results
The CD-ROM was created with all the information. It was handed out to the attendees during the workshop and mailed to those that couldn't attend but wanted the information. Attendees appreciated the elegance of the CD-ROM solution and seemed to use and reference the material more often than with just printed information.
