CASE STUDIES - Plastics Europe
Their Communication Need
PlasticsEurope is a European Association that generates information on the polymer industry and promotes plastics' positive
contribution to society.
Their 2004 Annual report was had to explain a major reorganisation and even renaming of the group. It was not just that
the name changed from Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME) to PlasticsEurope, it was that the organisation
itself changed from being a European group with national members, into one Paneuropean group that had offices in multiple
countries in Europe.
The report also had to continue PlasticEurope's ongoing mission to communicate the benefits of plastics.
The Business Communication Solution
Morris & Chapman therefore presented a dynamic approach that would allow merging of these two themes within the framework of PlasticsEurope's new visual identity. To contrast against the trend of washed out colours, M&C chose to use vibrant primary colours to catch the eye and reminiscent of the colour potency of plastics.
Multiple formatting and graphical techniques were used to convey the friendly merging process.
6 full-page case studies were used to highlight a selection of the major contributions that plastics makes as a high-tech innovative material. These included the stadium roofs in Portugal for the Euro 2004 tournament that allowed light to pass through but not the heat so as to make the stadiums very comfortable. Another very interesting case study was that SpaceShipOne, the first private ship to reach outer space, was made completely out of plastic composites.
Results
The end result was a very visually appealing Annual Report.
